Structured packing is packing material arranged and stacked in a uniform geometric shape within a tower. The entire tower section has a regular, symmetrical, and uniform geometry, defining gas-liquid flow channels, reducing channel flow and wall flow phenomena, and allowing for very low pressure drop. Under the same energy consumption and pressure drop conditions, it provides a larger specific surface area than random packing, achieving higher mass and heat transfer efficiencies for the same volume. In recent decades, structured packing has been widely used in many towers in fine chemical, fragrance, oil refining, fertilizer, and petrochemical industries.
Metal corrugated plate packing consists of several parallel and perpendicularly arranged metal corrugated plates with small holes. The corrugation apex angle is approximately 900 degrees, and the channels formed by the corrugations are at an angle of 45 degrees or 30 degrees to the vertical direction. The flow channels of two adjacent corrugated plates are at 90 degrees, and the upper and lower corrugated packing plates are stacked and rotated 90 degrees. In towers with small diameters connected by flanges, the corrugated packing is formed into complete discs with a diameter slightly smaller than the inner diameter of the tower. Metal corrugated plate packing is mainly used in reaction towers in chemical and industrial processes such as packed towers, stacked towers, and spin towers.
